Dyslexia affects 2 – 20% of the population and is defined as an inability to effectively read words. It is the most common learning disability accounting for at least 50% of the population with learning disabilities. The International Dyslexia Association defines dyslexia as neurological in origin and characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.
An individual can be quite intelligent and have dyslexia. There is no cure for dyslexia because it is not a disease. However, with proper identification and intensive intervention, individuals with dyslexia can become proficient readers and writers.
CVL helps with dyslexia and specific reading disabilities in two ways. First, our thorough psychological-educational assessments can identify areas of weakness that are correlated to dyslexia. Second, we provide an action plan for addressing specific areas of weakness. Armed with this information, parents and educators are empowered to assist with a child’s reading development.
